Vice President Chemical Recycling at Vopak
Ron Abbott is currently Vice President of Chemical Recycling in Vopak’s New Energy division responsible for developing and implementing Vopak’s global plastics recycling strategy. He began his career with Phillips Petroleum Company as a catalyst chemist in HF Alkylation. Throughout nearly three decades with Phillips Petroleum Company, Chevron Chemical Company and Chevron Phillips Chemical Company, he held a range of technical and commercial assignments including Sustainability Technology Manager, Petrochemicals R&D Manager, Normal Alpha Olefins Commercial Product Manager and Corporate Strategy and Planning Manager. He has led teams that successful commercialized several key technologies including the world’s first on-purpose 1-Hexene process, the Phillips ReVap alkylation process and CPChem’s high viscosity PAO process. In his last role with CPChem, Abbott initiated and led the development of CPChem’s chemical recycling program culminating with commercialization of Marlex® Anew™ Circular Polyethylene with an announced annual production target of one billion pounds by 2030.
Dr. Abbott joined Vopak in June of 2023 after a 31 year career with Chevron Phillips Chemical Company to direct Vopak’s global chemical recycling program as part of Vopak’s New Energies growth platform.
